Artists Will Nemitoff and Ayo Scott teamed up with support from the Arts Council New Orleans to provide messages of hope to healthcare workers and their patients. This unique collaboration paired the words of local poets with face shields fabricated by Curious Form to uplift and protect 10,000 frontline workers.

Nemitoff, founder of Curious Form, a local art fabrication and design company, converted his art studio to a face shield manufacturing site to aid the ongoing personal protective equipment (PPE) shortage in healthcare facilities in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis. Through community support and crowdfunding, Curious Form successfully donated 1,200 face shields to hospitals in Louisiana by June 30, 2020.

Similarly, artist and graphic designer Ayo Scott, who worked with spoken word artists and poets, transitioned his community outreach to respond to the COVID-19 crisis.

“I heard a story about how hard it was for healthcare workers to look in the faces of coronavirus patients and tell them everything would be okay,” Scott said. “I thought how much better it would be if those messages could be outsourced to people who had a way with words.”

Inspiring messages from local poets including Sha’Condria “iCon” Sibley, Tarriona “Tank” Ball, Akeem “Olaj” Martin, Ehren “Kataalyst” Alcindor, and Michael “A Scribe Called Quess” Moore will be displayed on face shields fabricated by Curious Form.
